Michael Del Zotto of the Nashville Predators with his friend 12 year old Liam Traynor. The two have been close friends for the four years that Del Zotto was a New York Ranger and both were upset to be separated when Del Zotto was traded to the Nashville Predators on January 22, 2014.
The two continued to keep in almost daily touch with phone calls and texts but their personal visits consisting of playing Xbox and discussing hockey came to a halt.
New York Rangers fans united and raised funds to fly Liam and his mother to Nashville to watch some games and to reunite with Del Zotto. The fans raised the money for the flights and hotel and the Predators donated tickets to the games on Thursday and Saturday.
"I’ve known Liam since my first year in New York and we pretty much talk or text every day. He always talks to his family and friends about how great I’ve been to him and helping him through tough times, but I think he’s just as much an inspiration for me. This year was a bit of a struggle at the start of the year. So sometimes you want to get down on yourself or feel sorry for yourself and then you look at how fortunate we are. So talking to him and feeling his support, this really is a two-way friendship. I’m lucky to have him in my life." - Michael Del Zotto
